There is plenty of detail in this, and that is always a good thing. The clouds have kept detail, as has the background, the water and the foreground (a little darker, which is what you want - not distracting). None of the highlights have blown out, which is perfect. Even the white sails have kept detail.
I've decided that your camera, not your technique, is what is letting you down. It got it right this time, but in general it's making you look bad
